Adjei

Film Director, Screenwriter and Visual Artist

Emmanuel Adjei is a Ghanaian-Dutch film director, screenwriter and visual artist. His work focuses on storytelling by transforming dramatic narratives into visual poems. Creating atmospheric worlds in both a painterly and a cinematic style, Adjei always seeks for the boundary between fiction and reality.

Adjei’s career has been marked by collaborations with a variety of recording artists such as Madonna, Sevdaliza, and Mark Pritchard, and brands such as Hugo Boss, Patta, Asics, and Dita. Adjei's distinct visuals for Madonna's Dark Ballet and Batuka starring the Batukadeiras Orchestra, received global acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME, and Billboard, in line with the success of his prior work that he directed for Dutch-Iranian artist Sevdaliza. His short film The Formula and music video Human, both starring Sevdaliza, has been hailed by critics, and their most prominent collaboration Shahmaran received significant critical acclaim and numerous nominations and prizes.
